Daughter drives Toyota for 2 years with strange acceleration issue, then dad realizes she’s been making a costly mistake the entire time

A TikTok user named Hannah shared a strange driving mistake she made for two whole years. She told her dad that her Toyota was speeding up in a violent way. He quickly figured out the problem. She was driving her automatic car in the wrong gear this entire time, which caused the weird and forceful speeding up.

According to Motor1, Hannah uses the name @hanahbananaspammy on TikTok. In her video, she explained what happened. After she complained to her dad about the violent speeding, he realized she had been keeping the car in the wrong gear for two years. This could have been “frying her engine.” Two years is a very long time to drive around confused about what’s wrong with your car.

Hannah later explained that her Toyota has an automatic transmission. Instead of putting it in the normal Drive position, she had accidentally moved the gear selector a bit to the left. This locked the car into fourth gear. Automatic cars let you pick specific gears. Lower gears work better for slow speeds or rough roads. Higher gears are needed when you drive fast on highways.

People attacked her without knowing the full story

When the video came out, many viewers reacted very harshly. The comments were mean. One person wrote: “go ahead and turn in that license babe.” “How do you drive in the wrong gear for 2 years..?” another asked. 

Because of all the negative comments, Hannah posted another video to defend herself. She wanted people to know she wasn’t driving in low gear on purpose. Toyota owners have faced other confusing vehicle situations that left them questioning their cars. She argued against critics who called her incompetent and told her to give back her license. She said she’s actually “a pretty good driver” and many people have told her this.

Here’s the good news. The mistake wasn’t as bad as “frying the engine.” After Hannah explained she was just locking the automatic transmission into fourth gear, some viewers said sorry for judging her too fast. She explained that accidentally moving the car “to the left in the gears has nothing to do with my driving skills.”

Experts and other viewers explained what really happened. By using the ‘4’ option, she just stopped the car from moving into the highest gear, called overdrive. She wasn’t damaging the engine.
