Nintendo has announced a brand new Nintendo Direct that will take place This Thursday, September 1st at 7am Pacific Time, 10am Eastern. While this announcement might get Nintendo fans buzzing, the company has said that this particular Nintendo Direct will be focused on the 3DS and its games. There will be no news about the upcoming console release, the Nintendo NX.

The 3DS has been a massive success over its five year lifespan, racking up millions of units sold, and even more software sales. However, the system has lagged as of late, still generating decent sales, but not really feeling like a fully active platform. As Nintendo has signaled a transition to NX from the Wii U, they have also shown signs of moving away from the 3DS and toward its eventual successor. Not anywhere near as large a transition, but the signs are there.

This Direct should help those who are still hooked on their 3DS and its games, with some very large releases coming very soon. There is, of course, Pokemon Sun & Moon. These new games already had a lot of excitement surrounding them before Pokemon Go went and whipped up the entire world into a Pokemon fueled frenzy. Yo-Kai Watch 2 is also coming up, which is a series that has become a huge phenomenon in its native Japan. We currently don’t know what games will be shown at this Nintendo Direct, but these are certainly getting a mention, at least.
