Nintendo Switch Sales Drop in Japan Due To Stock Issues

The sales for Nintendo Switch in Japan have fallen sharply in its second week due to the lack of consoles available in stores. It’s an unfortunate situation that makes this the worst second week of any recent Nintendo or Sony console in their home land, although it will hopefully be fixed by new shipments in the coming weeks. On the software list, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Wildlands and Kingdom Hearts 1.5+2.5 take the lead as the biggest new entries of the week.

The big new hardware launch of the year in Japan, Nintendo Switch, has seen how its launch numbers were ahead of previous releases like Wii U, only to fall behind most of recent consoles during the second week. However, the explanation for these numbers is that Nintendo simply can’t deal with the high demand for the console, with every shipment that they send to stores being sold instantly, and some of them being given to customers in raffles.

Considering the fact that the demand for the console is very strong, it doesn’t seem like the company needs to worry about the numbers, and simply need to produce enough devices so they can be sold.

Below are the list of second week sales in Japan for recent hardware releases by Nintendo and Sony:

Wii: 85.439
Nintendo 3DS: 209.623
PlayStation Vita: 72.479
Wii U: 126.916
PlayStation 4: 65.685
Nintendo Switch: 61.998

On the software charts, new releases Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Wildlans and Kingdom Hearts 1.5+2.5 were the biggest selling games of the week, the first one proving that Western shooters have more fans in Japan over time, and the second bringing in some extra sales for these remastered titles that were released separately for PlayStation 3.

Elsewhere in the charts, Nintendo Switch launch titles like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, 1-2 Switch, or Super Bomberman R dropped around a 75% in sales, in line with the numbers of the console, while PlayStation 4 releases Horizon: Zero Dawn and Nier: Automata had healthy drops, with the latter especially giving signs of potential sales in the long term.
