The Super Smash Bros. series has always been big on unlockables. Ever since the first game on the N64, players have had to play through challenges or perform certain tasks to unlock elements of the game, including new characters. This will be the case once again for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, with the opening roster containing just eight fighters to choose from. This leaves 66 characters as unlockables, so you’ll probably be playing this for a very long time.
The eight characters available at the start aren’t a huge surprise. They mirror the available fighters from the very first Super Smash Bros. game. Mario, Donkey Kong, Link, Samus, Yoshi, Kirby, Fox, and Pikachu all make up the available roster of fighters for Smash Ultimate when you first start the game. You’ll surely start unlocking new characters quickly, given that you have so many to gain.
How will you unlock these other characters? The ways will certainly be varied and sprinkled throughout the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate experience. The game arrives later this year, so check back for more as we learn more. Also check back throughout the day to see what was revealed during today’s 40 minute Nintendo Direct, all about Smash.
