While the world of Pokemon Go is still caught up in the hunt for various Legendary beasts, everyone has been anxiously awaiting the worldwide launch of Mewtwo raids. These are different than what was available for Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres, and now the Legendary Beasts, Raikou, Entei, and Suicune. Instead of any player being able to walk up and play, Mewtwo raids require a special EX Raid Pass, which is earned via an exclusive invite. The first of these just went out to select players late yesterday, so we’re finally getting the first key details.
So far only one specific gym seems to have been activated, the infamous “Water, Precious Water” gym in Bellevue, Washington. This was also where Moltres, the very first Legendary Bird, first made an appearance. Pokemon Go players who completed a raid here over the last few days received the invite, which gives them well over 24 hours notice of a Mewtwo raid that will occur there at 6-8pm Pacific Time on Thursday, September 7th.
It’s now up to the players who received this invite to coordinate and organize a start time. It’ll take a lot of them to take on Mewtwo, who is one of the toughest characters in all of Pokemon Go. If they can defeat him then they’ll get the extra challenge of actually catching him, though the Japanese event had a 100% catch rate. It’s unlikely that that will carry over here, but we’ll find out tomorrow.
Players who aren’t lucky enough to be invited to this special Mewtwo raid will likely wonder how to get an EX Raid Pass of their very own. We’re currently putting together all the available info right here.
