Lucasfilm has sadly announced that Carrie Fisher has died earlier today. Most people will know her best as Princess Leia in the Star Wars movies.
Carrie Fisher sadly passed away due to suffering another massive heart attack. She had a heart attack a few days before last week, but she managed to survive the first one. Her fatal heart attack occurred while she was boarding a flight from London to Los Angeles. Despite all efforts by medical personnel, they were sadly unable to save her. She was 60 years old at the time of her death.
Lucasfilm President, Kathleen Kennedy, posted: “Carrie holds such a special place in the hearts of everyone at Lucasfilm it is difficult to think of a world without her. She was Princess Leia to the world but a very special friend to all of us. She had an indomitable spirit, incredible wit, and a loving heart. Carrie also defined the female hero of our age over a generation ago. Her groundbreaking role as Princess Leia served as an inspiration of power and confidence for young girls everywhere. We will miss her dearly“.
The future of the new Star Wars trilogy is uncertain at this stage. Thankfully, Carrie Fisher filmed all of her scenes for Star Wars: Episode 8 already. The question still remains on how this will affect Episode 9 as Carrie Fisher was expected to still reprise her role in that movie too.
Star Wars Episode 8 is the last film she is set to appear in. She had no other films in production. Fisher’s death has been a shock to many as 2016 has been a horrible year for celebrities. 2016 already saw the deaths of the likes of George Michael, David Bowie, Prince and more.
