Microsoft’s Xbox Live network is usually very reliable. It rarely has unexpected outages, nor does Microsoft ever take it down for any extended period of time. However, this weekend, Xbox fans have found themselves without access to the nextwork, which unexpectedly went offline.
“We are still hard at work fixing the issue members are having signing in to Xbox LIVE. Rest assured we have every available resource working on fixing the problem. Thank you for your patience and keep checking back here every 30 minutes for an update on our progress.”
The Xbox Live Service Status page is the page the quote is referring to, and lists other areas of the Xbox LIVE service which are being affected at the moment. Microsoft hasn’t elaborated on what the problem might be, but it appears to be widespread, as Xbox Support has stopped fielding questions via Twitter because of the sheer volume.
Update: The Xbox Live Network is beginning to stabilize. However, the hacktivist group, Anonymous, has taken credit for the network outage.
