For the second time this month, reports of a new Fable game in development have surfaced.  The first report came from a member on the Reset Era forums that had a good track record when it came to Microsoft’s development pipeline.  And now, “sources” have apparently confirmed to Eurogamer that there is indeed a new Fable game in the works.

The report reveals that Microsoft is developing a big-budget Fable title that will “a story and character focused open world action RPG.”   Playground Games, who works on the Forza Horizon titles is being tasked with the development of this project and it will be coming out of the studio’s newly open second office.

Fable fans should not be expecting this game anytime soon, however.  The new report suggests that the game is still very early in development and that the developer is still trying to fill positions to work on the project.

It was assumed that Microsoft would be moving away from the Fable franchise after shutting down Lionhead Studios back in 2016 and canning the development of Fable Legends.

If these rumors hold true, this new Fable game will be getting back to the roots of the series.  The last time we saw that was back in 2010 with the release of Fable III.  What followed was a Kinect focused game in Fable: The Journey and Fable Legends (which never got out of beta).
