One of the most anticipated mainstream games to feature a virtual reality component is Capcom’s Resident Evil 7. Â With Sony’s release of PlayStation VR looming, it looks like they’ve secured at least a year of exclusivity for Resident Evil 7 in VR.
An advertisement spotted on Facebook by this Redditor, there’s clearly a “PlayStation VR Exclusive” label on the box art. Â It’s unclear, however, just what that means. Â The game is slated to arrive on PC and Xbox One alongside the PlayStation 4, but it looks like the Virtual Reality component will have a one year exclusive period on Sony’s console.
It’s a pretty smart move by Sony to get VR exclusivity for Resident Evil 7. Â It could definitely help them sell headsets as Resident Evil is wildly popular series, and the VR component showed at recent tradeshows was received well by attendees. Â However, it looks like PC players could have a stripped down version of the game. Â Since Xbox doesn’t have any concrete virtual reality plans announced at the moment, it doesn’t look like it will affect that platform as badly.
