Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite was first announced awhile ago, but we recently got the announcement of a few different characters in a new trailer for the game a couple weeks ago that also revealed a September release date. With that release only a few months away now, the roster announcements are bound to continue and the latest is very fitting based on its timing.

The official Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite Twitter account very stealthily posted to reveal a brand new character for the game in Rocket Raccoon. This character was rumored to be included in the game from past supposed leaks, but now he has been confirmed and appears to have a friend with him.

“Save some room for me!” – Rocket Raccoon who’s confirmed for , obviously.

As stated in the tweet, this announcement makes perfect sense with the release of Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 this weekend, which is bound to have a smash hit in the box office. The short video reveal of Rocket shown also shows Groot, but we aren’t quite sure if Rocket and Groot are a pair for everything or just one of Rocket’s ultimate attacks.

This isn’t Rocket’s first foray into the Marvel vs. Capcom series either, as he showed up in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 already. He was a standalone character in that though, so the potential for Groot to be involved definitely makes him all the more interesting.

Even though Rocket was revealed on release weekend for Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2, I wouldn’t be surprised to see another Guardians character end up in the game as well. Guardians are one of Marvel’s hottest properties right now thanks to the movie and leaving someone out like Starlord would seem like a very big mistake for as popular as that character has become. Hopefully we’ll get more reveals soon, though I’m sure we’ll get a bunch of news at E3 next month.
