Warner Bros. has released the second trailer of the upcoming Tomb Raider film starring Alicia Vikander. This time, the video goes more in depth on the story and shows more spectacular action scenes, with a fitting cover of Destiny’s Child’s Survivor in the background. The film is based on the 2013 reboot by Square Enix, while it also mixes some elements from the sequel, Rise of the Tomb Raider. The central plot revolves around Lara’s trip to the Devil’s Sea to shed some light on her father’s investigations.
Vikander succeeds Angelina Jolie in portraying the iconic Lara Croft, with a slightly more subdued performance, but still not as fragile as the character of the 2013 videogame, even if the film follows closely the plot of that entry.
Here’s an official overview of the film: “From Warner Bros. Pictures and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures, Tomb Raider is the story that will set a young and resolute Lara Croft on a path toward becoming a global hero. The film stars Oscar winner Alicia Vikander (Ex Machina, The Danish Girl) in the lead role, under the direction of Roar Uthaug (The Wave), with Oscar-winner Graham King (The Departed) producing under his GK Films banner. The film¹s production begins on the heels of the 20th anniversary of the wildly popular videogame franchise from Square Enix, Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal.”
2018 is going to be a good year for the Tomb Raider franchise, as Square Enix also confirmed recently that a new game of the series will be released, although they haven’t given any more details.
