Just like with Cervantes before him, Bandai Namco has “lifted the veil” on the second character who was confirmed for SoulCalibur 6 via a photo from a past event: Raphael.

Raphael joins the likes of Talim, Zasalamel and Tira as a character who was introduced in a later entry in the series (SoulCalibur 2 in this case), but will play a part in this game’s story due to it being a soft reboot. As a result, we’ll likely be able to see more of what happened during the Evil Seed incident and the immediate fallout, rather than just have a reference to the event and the struggle that came afterward.

To recap, Raphael, a former French noble, was thrust into SoulCalibur’s larger conflict after he killed another noble in self-defense during the Evil Seed incident (the event when the Soul Edge accepted Siegfried as his master). He was forced to flee and due to various circumstances found himself going head-to-head with Nightmare. Though he lost, he survived the encounter, but eventually fell prey to Soul Edge’s influence and slowly descended into madness. By the time SoulCalibur 3 came around, the former protagonist was an antagonist hellbent on recreating the world for his own purposes.

As with everyone else, Raphael will utilize his classic fighting style — fencing. Using his rapier, Raphael is able to unleash a myriad of quick thrusts and slashes which make him difficult to both hit and defend against. And this fighting style will be perfectly reflected in his Critical Edge which has Raphael do more of the same before ending the assault with one final thrust that sends him clean through his opponent.

SoulCalibur 6 is almost exactly a month away now and the overall roster is looking pretty good. There’s still the question of characters like Rock, Lizardman and Hwang being included, but many fan favorites have already been confirmed, and we even have others who weren’t included in the original story but still has something worthwhile to add to it.

SoulCalibur 6 is due out for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on Oct. 19.
