Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy is back at the top of the United Kingdom charts. That alone is a remarkable fact, especially since it matches the record set by The Last of Us Remastered for most weeks at number 1 of a PS4-only release. However, it’s even more impressive this week, since it outsold the debut of Nintendo Switch’s big exclusive for the summer: Splatoon 2. The Activision title rose 59% its sales this week thanks to a new shipment of copies to retailers.
That doesn’t mean that Nintendo’s most important modern IP has failed to impress the fans, though. Splatoon 2 has sold around 60% more than its predecessor’s debut on Wii U, and it’s the third biggest game release for Nintendo Switch behind The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, which remains the console’s only chart-topper. The fact that Crash Bandicoot beat it to the top in its fourth week in the charts probably says more about N. Sane Trilogy’s phenomenal success. And it’s worth noting that both titles were only separated by 700 sales.
Nintendo used the Splatoon release to ship more units of its hybrid console, which prompted a sales increase for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Breath of the Wild, which rose to number 4 and 6 respectively.
Last week’s chart-topper Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age dropped to number 7 and 85% in sales, which is in line with games with a front loaded release.
