The Xbox One will be getting a brand new version of Minecraft when the console releases this holiday season. But that doesn’t mean that Xbox 360 players will stop getting updates from 4J Studios. In fact, the developers plan on updating both the Xbox 360 version of Minecraft and the Xbox One version of the game at the same time.
The developers are putting the finishing touches on Title Update 12 for the Xbox 360 version of Minecraft, and have been fielding fan questions about the future of the game on the Xbox One. When asked about supporting the game going forward, 4J replied that the updates would continue even after the Xbox One is released. This additional workload for the developers could mean that updates will arrive at a slower pace.
The latest update for the Xbox 360 version of the game is allegedly one of the biggest to date, with a number of “software architecture changes needed”. Which 4J Studios points to as the reasons behind the lengthy time between update 11 and 12. The developers still don’t have an exact time frame on the next update for Minecraft, but did say they will update fans once the patch enters into the certification process.
Obviously, 4J Studios has their work cut out for them with working on both versions of Minecraft. They’ve also discussed the possibility of letting Minecraft Xbox 360 players transfer their saves to the Xbox One version of the game, when it arrives on the Xbox One during the console’s “launch window”.
