The last few months have not been the best for Xbox Live Gold members when it comes to Games With Gold. There have often been a good game or two, but overall lackluster for the most part. Xbox is looking to turn things around for August though with the reveal of the new Games With Gold titles that stick to first party on Xbox One.
Starting on August 1, Xbox Live Gold members will be able to download Gears of War 4 on Xbox One as part of Games With Gold. Gears of War 4 released nearly three years ago and still retails for $29.99. While it may not have scored as high as the original trilogy with an 84 overall Metacritic score, the game was an improvement on Judgment and is still a very good game. This is also a perfect time to play Gears of War 4 with the release of Gears 5 coming soon.
On August 15, Forza Motorsport 6 will be made available as part of Games With Gold, which originally released back in 2015 and still retails for $29.99. Even though this is an older game, it stands as the highest rated of the three Forza Motorsport games on Xbox One with an 87 on Metacritic.
Moving onto Xbox 360, we have two games that were well received starting with Torchlight starting on August 1. The action RPG Torchlight currently has an 81 Metacritic rating back when it released in 2011 and currently retails for $14.99.
Later in the month on August 16, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow will replace Torchlight for Xbox 360. Quite the departure from most entries, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow managed to review well with an 83 on Metacritic and still retails for $19.99.
This is definitely one of the better months for Games With Gold, even with nothing being newer than 2016. The first party games on Xbox One is nice to see and it’s hard to complain with getting a Castlevania game for the second month in a row after last month’s Castlevania: Symphony of the Night.
