Microsoft has offcially changed the name of the Xbox Live Marketplace to the Xbox Games Store.  The store will now sit alongside the Xbox Music Store and Xbox Video Store.

The change is effective immediately, and Microsoft says it’s a shift that makes it easier for consumers to find the content they are looking for.

Recently confirmed to Joystiq, “This is to make it easier for consumers to find content both on Xbox 360 today and Xbox One when it launches in November,” according to a Microsoft rep.

The Xbox Live Marketplace has seen many incarnations over the past eight years.  Though over the past few days we’ve seen some major changes.  Earlier this week an update went live that left Microsoft Points in the rearview mirror, and now, the long time name of the marketplace has changed as well.
