A profile under the TikTok username @stacysmom031 shared a video in which a woman confronts a Costco employee. She claimed the employee had spoken to a coworker in Spanish about her, saying she looked Indian. The post has drawn hundreds of thousands of views.
In the video, the woman holds the camera in a first-person view inside a Costco warehouse. Only her jeans and shoes are visible at times. On-screen text states that a Costco worker said something racist about her in Spanish, thinking she would not understand. She approaches two employees near a food counter, one in a black shirt and another, a bald man in a blue checkered shirt with his arms crossed.
She addresses the man in the blue shirt and says he had just been talking about her in Spanish. She states that he told the other employee she looked Indian. The man appears to shake his head and say no, but she insists he did and calls him a liar. She adds that her heart is beating hard and that she feels disrespected.
The customer details her spending, and the exchange continues
The woman says in the video that she just spent over $300 in the store. She tells the employee, “You’re not gonna call me names.” She states that she is not Indian and that she understood what was said. She describes the situation as disrespectful because the comment was made in another language.
The man in the blue shirt asks if he can get her some water. She replies, “Sure, please, because at this point I’m,” before the clip ends mid-sentence. The caption on the TikTok post describes a racist Costco employee being caught telling another employee in Spanish that she looks Indian.
The woman claims the employee disrespected her by speaking in Spanish about her appearance. She states that she spent more than $300 during her visit. She appears to remain firm that she understood the Spanish conversation and that the remark about looking Indian was directed at her. Accusations of racism in public confrontations have drawn attention online before, such as a racist confrontation over alleged littering.
Viewers of the post shared a range of reactions in the comments. One commenter wrote, “hope he gets fired.” Another noted that the employee tried to apologize and said to let him. A third commenter wrote, “She is acting like if it’s the end of the world like if she has never made a mistake and thought someone was from a different country.”
Another viewer who identified as Indian commented, “As an Indian I was told I looked Portuguese yesterday… I wasn’t offended… should I have been?” One more wrote, “People mistaken my ethnicity it’s not that deep.”
A different commenter suggested, “Sounds like he thought you were cute but was trying to figure out what race you are.”
Costco has not addressed this video publicly as of this writing. Attack of the Fanboy could not independently verify the creator’s claims.
