An Indiana Democrat running for county council said she’d ‘fire all Republicans,’ then gave voters her final message: ‘We have guns too’

Fayette County Council candidate Jaime West is facing intense scrutiny after a televised candidate forum took a turn that left many viewers stunned. The Indiana Democrat used her platform to launch a series of heated attacks against her political opponents, and her final message to voters has sparked a significant amount of backlash across social media.

As reported by Fox News, during the event, West made her stance on local governance perfectly clear when asked about an unpopular decision she might make if elected. She told the moderator, “Fire all Republicans.” She continued by explaining her personal approach to the party, stating, “I wouldn’t let them — I don’t even talk to them. I don’t like them. They voted against — their own state representative voted against her own party.”

The candidate also spent time criticizing a specific segment of the population, labeling them as “MAGAs” and claiming they are “racist and aren’t very intelligent at all.” She claimed that she has faced personal threats, alleging that the nephew of a sheriff had threatened to blow her head off. When the moderator provided her with a final opportunity to address the voters, she delivered a blunt response: “We have guns too.”

Her performance has drawn sharp criticism

This performance has drawn sharp criticism from observers who questioned her conduct during the forum. Chaya Raichik, who runs the LibsOfTikTok account, shared the clip on X and noted, “Jaime West, a Democrat running for Fayette County Council in Indiana, gave an embarrassing interview where she appears to mumble and rant the entire time. Is she intoxicated?” Raichik also added, “This is not a skit.”

Others weighed in on the bizarre nature of the video. Viva Frei, a former litigator, shared his thoughts on X, mentioning that he initially thought the footage was a “skit [or] high school video project.” He added, “I had to make sure she did not have a neurological disorder that could account for the slurred speech and insane rambling. She doesn’t. And even if she did have a diagnosed neurological disorder, ‘we have guns too’ after talking about firing all Republicans would ordinarily be disqualifying.”

The specific claim regarding a sheriff’s nephew also drew a direct rebuttal from the local authorities. Zac Jones, who serves as the sheriff for Fayette County, expressed confusion regarding the allegation.

He stated, “I don’t know Jaime West, and she obviously doesn’t know me. I have five nieces and zero nephews. I’m not sure what she is talking about, and I’m certain she has no idea what she is talking about either.” Sheriff Jones further remarked, “It’s a sad day when this is the best the Democrat Party can get to run for this important local office.”

West is currently running against Republican candidate Gary Keener Jr. for the seat on the Fayette County Council. As of now, West has not provided a comment regarding the controversy surrounding her appearance at the forum.
