Andy Cohen drunkenly roasts politician on live TV while Anderson Cooper tries to stop him but it only gets worse

Cooper's panic face says it all.

Andy Cohen ended his New Year’s Eve show by going after former New York City Mayor Eric Adams in a drunk rant. His co-host Anderson Cooper couldn’t do anything to stop him. This isn’t the first time Cohen has used the yearly show to complain about the city’s leaders who are leaving office.

According to HuffPost, the moment happened early Thursday morning, about ten minutes after midnight. Cohen was clearly very drunk and started slurring his words. He said he was “watching the final moments of Mayor Adams’ chaotic, horrible [term].”

Cooper looked worried right away. He knew what was coming next. Cooper and their guest, comedian B.J. Novak, tried hard to stop Cohen’s rant. “No, don’t!” Cooper begged. Novak reminded Cohen that he did this same thing in 2022 when he ranted about then-mayor Bill De Blasio.

Cohen turned Adams’ rat success into a political insult

But Cohen didn’t stop. He made fun of Adams, saying it was “great” that he “got [his] pardons.” He was talking about the corruption charges against Adams from 2024. A judge threw out those charges in April after the Department of Justice stepped in.

Cohen then told the former mayor to leave, saying, “Go off in the sunset, we’ll fiddle with what we have, with what you left us with. Go dance away, we’ll see you at all the parties.” That was harsh for a live show, but it was definitely entertaining to watch. Despite the mockery, some still called for Adams to step down over his controversies.

Cooper kept trying to stop his friend, but Novak gave up and joined in instead. Novak joked about seeing the former mayor at “Zero Bond,” a fancy private club in Manhattan that Adams often goes to. Cohen got excited and said, “Yes! We’ll see you at Zero Bond! All the clubs.”

Cooper could only sigh. At one point, he looked defeated and said, “Sweetie…” Later, he said, “He can’t help himself,” clearly tired of the whole thing.

Novak then mentioned Adams’ famous fight against the city’s rats. “He did a good job with the rats, right?” Novak asked. This made Cooper laugh. But Cohen used this to make one final attack.

“I will say this,” Cohen said, “I think he may have dented the rat population. I think he got rid of some of the rats, but isn’t that a metaphor of sorts? Let’s call it as it is, honestly. It is 2026, and there are less rats.” He turned a real accomplishment into a joke about political failure.

Adams didn’t let this slide. Hours later, he responded on X. Adams told Cohen to “seek help” by joining Alcoholics Anonymous, which he called “AAA: Andy’s Alcohol Anonymous.” Adams wrote, “If anyone actually cares about him, they’ll tell him to get help. New Yorkers aren’t laughing with him. They are concerned about him.

Public intoxication is a disease. He should seek help. He was safe in Times Square because we did our job. Again. Seek help.” Adams clearly knows how to hit back on social media. Meanwhile, his successor has been busy ripping up Adams’ controversial orders and criticizing his legacy.
