President Trump avoided answering whether he would testify about the Jeffrey Epstein files during an exclusive interview. The interview with NBC Nightly News anchor Tom Llamas is set to air on Super Bowl Sunday. Clips from the conversation are already being released, showing some of the most notable moments.
According to Mediaite, the topic came up because President Trump brought it up himself. He mentioned that former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton have reportedly agreed to testify. Llamas then asked if Trump should also cooperate, just like the Clintons.
President Trump dodged the question by claiming “they’ve already brought me.” He was referring to his past legal battles, not anything related to Epstein. He was talking about his previous indictments and impeachments instead of answering the actual question.
Trump’s legal history differs from his testimony claims
President Trump explained his claim by talking about his legal record. He said he won two “fake impeachments” and claimed he had been indicted 87 different times. He said someone calculated his potential prison time if he had lost those cases, which came out to 287 years. “I said, I’d better win,” he remarked.
The conversation started when Llamas asked if anyone else should expect the Department of Justice to “come after them” as they came after Trump. “I was impeached twice, two fake impeachments, won both of them easily,” Trump said. He added, “I was indicted 87 different times, and then you ask me that question. I think I’m extremely moderate, especially for what they did to me.”
When Llamas asked if this meant it was okay for the DOJ to pursue political enemies, Trump insisted he wasn’t involved. “I could be involved. You know, I’m the chief law enforcement officer of the United States. I could be involved, but I’m not. I don’t choose to,” he stated. Trump has been involved in several legal disputes recently, including his lawsuit against a major bank.
Trump then brought up the Epstein issue again, claiming the Clintons were the ones with the problem. “They asked me a question yesterday at the press conference about Clinton because of the testimony. The Epstein thing, which turned out that I have nothing to do, and they did, about Epstein,” he said. He has previously called for shifting focus away from the Epstein files controversy.
When Llamas mentioned that Democrats were suggesting that if Bill Clinton had to testify, Trump would have to as well, Trump gave his final answer. “Well, I think they might say that, you know. But they’ve already brought me. See, I’ve been brought. They had me indicted many, many times. Many, many times. They didn’t do that to Clinton,” he said.
The facts show Trump actually faced 91 felony counts across multiple locations, not 87, and none were related to Jeffrey Epstein. He was found guilty on all 34 felony counts in the New York hush money trial but received an unconditional discharge on January 10, 2025, after winning the election. Seven GOP senators voted to convict in his second impeachment trial.
