‘We’re not all like him’: Jimmy Kimmel lambasts Trump in a chilling Christmas message to the UK

"Tyranny is booming over here."

Jimmy Kimmel just delivered a chilling “Alternative Christmas Message” to a British audience, as per The Hill, using the holiday tradition to lambast President Trump and warn that “tyranny is booming” in the United States. Kimmel’s filmed remarks aired on Channel 4, continuing a long-standing holiday tradition that started way back in 1993. This tradition usually features a contemporary and sometimes controversial celebrity offering a Christmas message, much like the monarch does.

Kimmel admitted he wasn’t super familiar with the political happenings in the U.K. Instead, he focused on what he knows best: the chaos across the pond. He stated that he knows what’s going on in the U.S., adding that “I can tell you that from a fascism perspective, this has been a really great year.” He continued, saying, “Tyranny is booming over here.”

The comedian didn’t pull any punches, saying the US is “a right mess” and acknowledging that the situation is affecting the U.K. too. He wanted to make sure they knew one crucial thing. “And we want you to know, or at least I want you to know, that we’re not all like him,” Kimmel stressed, offering a sort of apology for the state of American leadership.

The late-night host quickly tied this broader critique back to his own recent battles with the president

Kimmel pointed out that the president wants to silence him simply because he doesn’t give him the adoration he demands. Back in September, ABC briefly yanked Kimmel off the air following comments he made regarding the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. President Trump vehemently attacked Kimmel over the remarks, and Federal Communications Commission Chair Brendan Carr even argued that the network and TV stations should take action against him.

Kimmel called his return to the air about a week later a “Christmas miracle,” even though it technically happened in September. He lauded the people who stepped up to defend him and support the right to free expression. “We won, the president lost, and now I’m back on the air every night, giving the most powerful politician on earth a right and richly deserved bollocking,” Kimmel continued.

Kimmel also used the opportunity to dive into a deeper critique of American democracy. He joked that Americans are very proud of not having a king, which is why they broke away from the U.K. in the first place. “We Americans are very proud of not having a king. It’s kind of why we left,” he quipped, adding that they have nothing against the actual King of England.

He said the real problem is with the guy who “thinks he is our king.” Kimmel warned that the US is currently “both figuratively and literally tearing down the structures of our democracy,” listing everything from the free press and science to judicial independence and even the White House itself.

This latest address proves the comedian isn’t slowing down. Kimmel’s criticism of President Trump remains rampant on his late-night show every single night, ensuring that this high-profile feud is definitely sticking around for the holidays and beyond.
