Agents of SHIELD Spinoff Eyes Two Leads Amidst Rumors Of Yet Another Series

Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD has been on absolutely fire critically since the massive shakeup following last year’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier, but the ratings have still been far from their big screen counterparts. Marvel’s Agent Carter also struggled in the ratings over the winter hiatus, so it was quite surprising to learn that Marvel was planning yet another spinoff for next year. After much speculation, reports are saying just who that spinoff will be involving, while there are also rumors of potentially another Marvel TV series as well.

As reported by Deadline, Marvel is looking to take two fan favorite additions to season two of Agents of SHIELD and put them in the lead roles of the spinoff. Those two specifically are Adrianne Palicki’s Bobbi Morse, aka Mockingbird, and Nick Blood’s Lance Hunter. Mockingbird is most certainly a major player in Marvel comics, while Hunter is a brand new creation for Agents of SHIELD, though his past relationship with Morse saw him in in the ex-husband role instead of Hawkeye, as it was in the comics.

The report says that the two are finalizing contracts right now, so while it isn’t a done deal yet, it’s likely it will be happening. This is very interesting since Palicki was announced as being promoted to a series regular next season, so this would take her off on another trajectory instead. Considering the current relationship between Morse and Hunter on the show and situation surrounding them, a lot will certainly have to change at this point before they can leave together for a spinoff.

There are no details of a title of any sort, but it is being developed by Agents of SHIELD’s executive producer Jeffrey Bell and co-executive producer Paul Zbyszewski, with the latter expected to be the showrunner if the show is picked up. ABC will not make a decision on this project until a script is brought in, though they are hoping that will be before the upfronts and would go from there.

This is not the only supposed spinoff of SHIELD either, as the one mentioned before to be run by 12 Years a Slave’s John Ridley is another show entirely. The current rumor right now is that it could be involving the very popular and topical Kamala Kahn, aka Ms. Marvel, though that could be hard to pull out in a universe prior to the existence of Captain Marvel.

It is also said the rumored Ms. Marvel series would be a winter hiatus series like Agent Carter, while the other spinoff would run concurrently with Agents of SHIELD. One would assume things aren’t looking good for Agent Carter as a result, but if they can have two series running in the fall and spring, why not the winter hiatus as well? ABC’s upfront on May 12 should shed a lot more light on all things involving Marvel on the network.
