A North Carolina woman recently discovered a charge on her credit card that she did not authorize after leaving a restaurant. Kala, who posts on TikTok as @thatgirlkala22, reportedly saw her bill increase from $52.60 to exactly $60 the morning after her meal at Barbaro Durham.
As reported by BroBible, the situation started when Kala and a friend visited the restaurant and found the process confusing. She claims no staff member was at the door to greet them or explain how to get a table. After waiting over 20 minutes at a table without any interaction from a server, Kala went to the bar.
The bartender informed her that the restaurant operated on a self-seating basis and that customers needed to order directly at the bar. Kala says nobody told them this initially, which left her frustrated.
She was charged extra
Despite the service issues, the pair ordered two burgers, two margaritas, and fries. The total bill came to $52.60. Kala mentions that the meal itself was fine, but she felt the service was poor. Because of this, she chose to leave a $0 tip. “I’m tipping them $0 because I didn’t get help,” Kala explains. She felt that the lack of service did not warrant a tip.
The next day, Kala checked her bank account and reportedly noticed an extra $7.40 had been added to her total. “That $7 did not belong to you because you did not work for it,” Kala vents. She was unhappy about the additional charge and decided to take action.
Many viewers on TikTok agreed with her, with one commenter writing, “Idc what people are saying about tipping.. they stole from you girl. Smh.” Other commenters suggested that she contact her bank to dispute the charge or file a police report because they viewed the unauthorized tip as a crime.
Kala told BroBible that she attempted to resolve the issue with the restaurant directly before involving her bank. “I called them like two or three times, and they never answered,” she said. Because she could not reach anyone at the restaurant, she proceeded to file a dispute with her credit card company. She eventually received the $7.40 back, which was her goal from the start.
Kala also reportedly dealt with a parking issue during her visit. She paid $8 for parking at one of the restaurant facilities, but when she attempted to extend her time through the app, it failed to work. This technical error resulted in her receiving a $50 parking ticket.
Attack of the Fanboy was unable to independently verify the restaurant’s side of the story, as this account originates solely from Kala’s TikTok video.
