With April Fools’ Day on the horizon, it’s still a while until we hear about some wild pranks. However, in Georgia, some students have crossed the line completely, as their prank involving their teacher ended in tragedy. If the prank involves a teacher, it already sounds disrespectful to many, but the turn this trick has taken for the teacher has put the community in disbelief.
As per People, the 40-year-old North Hall High School math teacher and golf coach, Jason Hughes have passed away in the hospital following a bizarre prank pulled by a group of students. The school did warn the students about these tricks and jokes going too far, but after a few days, the respected teacher ended up in this tragedy.
His death was on 6th March 2026, just a few days after the group showed up to his location and threw toilet paper on his house as a prank. When the teacher came out of his property to check on the students, one of them drove over Hughes while attempting to escape the scene.
Students checked out on the teacher immediately after they ran over him
The teacher, Jason Hughes, was caught up in the incident as students tried to flee his property. The group, involving five students, arrived in two cars, with one of the cars running over Hughes. It was reportedly a pickup truck driven by the 18-year-old, Jayden Ryan Wallace, which rolled over the teacher as he lost footing and fell while addressing the students’ mischief.

Following the incident, the students stopped their vehicles, checked on the teacher, and remained until paramedics arrived. Jack was then shifted to the hospital, but later he passed away due to his injuries, similarly to the MLB announcer luckily survived his incident. The students involved in the incident, including Jayden, were Elijah Tate Owens, Aiden Hucks, Ana Katherine Luque, and Ariana Cruz. All were aged 18 and were arrested by the authorities after the tragic event.
The student who was driving the truck has been charged with first-degree vehicular homicide and reckless driving, tied to Jason’s death. Meanwhile, the remaining students will face criminal trespass and littering private property. Jason’s beloved family includes his wife, Laura, and his two sons, and GoFundMe has reportedly raised over $190,000 to support them. This unexpected and tragic incident has left the community mourning, with them paying tribute to the teacher.
