A Hooters server named Jay has shared the tough daily requirements she faces before starting work. She says these rules would drive most people crazy. Jay, who goes by @secretarnoldpalmer on TikTok, posted videos explaining what she calls “things that are normal at Hooters that would send the average person into psychosis.”
According to Bro Bible, Jay says servers must go through a detailed uniform check as soon as they arrive at work. This is not just a quick look. She has to do a full 360-degree turn in front of her manager so they can inspect her uniform from every angle. This happens even if the manager is a man, and Jay has to spin around in her booty shorts.
The appearance rules do not stop at the uniform. Jay claims servers get graded on their makeup every single day. They need to wear specific amounts of blush, mascara, and lipstick before they can begin their shift. Getting your makeup judged daily sounds tiring for workers who just want to do their job.
The weight and appearance standards are surprisingly strict
The rules go beyond makeup and uniforms. Jay says servers need to watch what they eat if they want to keep their jobs. She claims it is normal for staff to get fired for gaining weight. Jay mentions she has to “keep up with that,” though her metabolism helps. Hair rules are also strict: servers cannot wear the half-up, half-down style. They must wear their hair either completely up or completely down.
Jay says the focus on looks starts before anyone even gets hired. When people apply for the job, managers do not care much about work experience. Instead, they look at photos and pick based on appearance. Jay compares it to swiping through a dating app, saying managers treat applicant photos “like a Tinder match.”
The working conditions have shocked many viewers. Jay mentioned in another video that servers do not get breaks during their shifts. She wondered if this was normal in restaurants, but many people were upset. One viewer wrote, “I think no break is illegal.” Federal law does not require breaks, but some states do. This is not the first time restaurant workers have shared shocking experiences that left customers and viewers stunned.
Jay also claims servers cannot wear winter clothing, even when serving tables outside in freezing weather. This sounds dangerous and seems like a health risk just to deliver food. Other service workers have also revealed surprising secrets about their jobs, showing how much happens behind the scenes in the hospitality industry.
Hooters has been struggling lately. The chain started in Florida in 1983 and was once very popular. However, the company filed for bankruptcy in March. They face competition from restaurants like Twin Peaks and may be losing customers.
Hooters is now spending $30 million on a makeover to become “delightfully tacky” again. The strict rules Jay described seem to be part of their plan to create a consistent experience at all locations.
