‘I can’t walk away from this bear right now’: Hunter realizes he’s being followed in the woods and captures what happens next

This guy has balls of steel.

A hunter in Alaska had a scary moment when a huge grizzly bear started following him in the woods. Levi Hedrick was hunting ducks alone when he noticed the bear tracking his every move. The situation got so serious that he had to charge at the animal and use bear spray to escape safely.

According to Bro Bible, Hedrick shares his outdoor adventures on TikTok under the name @levi.austinnn. He recorded the entire frightening encounter last month while hunting near Sitka, Alaska. The video shows just how big the bear was and how it wouldn’t stop following him, even when he tried to walk away.

When Hedrick first saw the grizzly, he was duck hunting with his golden retriever. He quickly sent his dog home to keep it safe. After that, he was alone facing a massive brown bear that refused to leave him alone.

The bear kept getting closer despite all warnings

Hedrick started filming when he realized the bear was chasing him. In the video, you can see the large animal moving through the trees and coming straight toward him. “I can’t walk away from this f*** bear right now,” he said, understanding he was in real danger.

At first, Hedrick tried doing what experts recommend. He turned around and slowly walked away, hoping the bear would lose interest. But the plan didn’t work. Every time he looked back, the grizzly was even closer than before. “He follows me,” Hedrick said in the video, worried about the long walk back home.

When Hedrick saw the situation getting worse, he made a bold choice. “I’ve gotta do it,” he said before running toward the bear and spraying it with bear spray. The risky move worked perfectly. The bear started sneezing right away and ran off into the woods, letting Hedrick walk home without any injuries.

Grizzly bears are extremely dangerous animals and the second deadliest bear species after polar bears. While polar bears can weigh up to 1,500 pounds, grizzlies can still reach 800 pounds. They’re known for being aggressive and protective of their space, which makes them very scary to encounter in the wild. Bear encounters happen more often than people think. Even in video games, knowing how to survive a bear encounter can come in handy.

If a grizzly bear attacks you, don’t run or fight back. Instead, lie flat on the ground, stay still, and protect your head with your hands and arms. This shows the bear you’re not a threat. But if a black bear attacks, you should fight back as hard as you can.

Hedrick says this wasn’t his first dangerous bear encounter. He’s used bear spray three times to protect himself from bears. He wants others to learn from his experience but not be too afraid. “My advice to everybody would be don’t be scared of the bears and use bear spray,” he explained. He thinks it’s best to “preserve yours and the bear’s life and get out of there safely!”

His TikTok video got 2.5 million views and thousands of comments. Many viewers said a grizzly bear encounter is their worst fear. “I feel like you should be a little more bothered,” one person wrote. Bear attacks can happen in unexpected places, like when a bear chased an 11-year-old through a store. While some people joked about it, most agreed that these encounters are truly frightening.
