TikToker senses something off with her Starbucks canned drink, then cuts it open to see what’s inside, and now the internet is traumatized

The worst day to have eyes.

We have all been there. You grab a cold, refreshing canned beverage from the fridge, crack the tab, and start sipping away without giving the contents a second thought. It is the kind of convenience we rely on every single day, but a recent viral video might have you reconsidering that habit for good.

A TikTok user named Tjayne, known online as @taylor0427, recently decided to cut open her Starbucks Doubleshot Energy Coffee Vanilla after sensing something was off, BroBible covered. What she discovered inside has essentially left the internet in a state of disbelief and disgust.

In her video, which captures the moment she opens the can in real time, the shock is immediate. You can hear Tjayne saying, “Dude, this is so nasty,” as she examines the inside of the container. A voice in the background chimes in, “Literally, just try to drink your energy drink, open it this morning, hoping you can get some nice energy.” As Tjayne peers into the cut-open can, her reaction is visceral. “Oh, that’s so big,” she exclaims before showing the camera the contents.

The Starbucks canned drink contained a dead mouse, and things only get worse from there

As she dumps the remaining liquid into the sink, she points out, “That’s poop, that’s freaking poop,” while observing small brown pieces floating in the coffee. By the time they dump the mouse onto a paper towel, both women are audibly sickened and rush off camera. Tjayne repeats, “Shut up, shut up, shut up. This is so nasty.”

When reached for comment regarding this specific incident, a spokesperson from the North America Coffee Partnership at PepsiCo told the media, “We take product quality and safety extremely seriously, and our manufacturing process includes multiple safeguards designed to prevent foreign material from entering sealed containers. We are in contact with the consumer and conducting a thorough investigation.”

The reaction online was immediate and intense. Commenters were left questioning how such a thing is even possible. One viewer pointed out the horror of having consumed half the drink before realizing the truth, stating, “AND U DRINK HALF OF IT.” Another urged legal action, advising, “PLEASE SUE IMMEDIATELY U HAVE A CASE FR.” Others were left wondering if this is a broader issue, with one person noting, “This isn’t just Starbucks, this is very common with other cans like these. Please dont drink anything that you can’t see.”

This is not the first time such an alarming discovery has surfaced. While these incidents are generally considered rare, they have been documented across various brands and platforms. Just last week, a news station in Virginia reported on a customer who found a dead mouse inside an energy drink, and similar stories have popped up on Reddit and TikTok frequently. It is widely believed that these foreign objects enter the cans during the packaging process, specifically before the containers are sealed.

History shows us that these incidents often lead to intense legal battles. Back in 2012, a man sued PepsiCo after claiming to find a dead mouse in a can of Mountain Dew. That case eventually settled, but only after the company suggested the man might have tampered with the product themselves, arguing that the acidity of the soda would have dissolved the mouse between the time of packaging and when the customer opened it.

Similarly, a woman in Michigan sued Monster Energy over a similar claim, but the company denied any wrongdoing. A lawyer for Monster Energy even went as far as to say, “Strict manufacturing processes and technology make it impossible for a mouse to be sealed inside a Monster Energy drink. The lawsuit is frivolous, and Monster Energy looks forward to, once again, exposing this hoax.”

The psychological impact of these discoveries is also significant. Another TikToker shared her own harrowing experience with finding a dead animal in her drink. She explained that the ordeal led her to start EMDR therapy, which stands for eye movement desensitization and reprocessing.

Whether it is Alani Nu, Starbucks, or Monster, the trend of these viral videos is clearly shaking consumer confidence. In October 2024, another woman went viral for finding a mouse in her Alani Nu can after drinking part of it, and several other videos involving that same brand have circulated over the years. No one knows for sure how these animals end up inside, but for many, the risk is simply too high. As one commenter put it, “Now I don’t even want a canned drink anymore omg.”
