A woman attending her company’s annual holiday luncheon at Capital Grille in North Raleigh, N.C., got an unexpected surprise when her server joked about her order by bringing her a Disney Frozen coloring book, according to BroBible. That’s right, Danielle Boncella, who shared the story on her TikTok account @daniellaboncella, sparked a massive online debate about steak etiquette after she asked for a side of ketchup with her medium-well steak.
Boncella recounted the whole awkward situation in a video that has already racked up more than 8,000 views. She’s pretty clear about her culinary preferences, even if they aren’t exactly traditional fine dining fare. “One thing about me, your girl loves a steak,” she said, adding that she likes it medium-well and “dipped in ketchup,” too.
When she placed the order at the upscale restaurant, her request for ketchup immediately drew laughter from both her co-workers and the waitstaff. She recalled the server making fun of her, rolling her eyes as she said he suggested she “should probably sit at the kids’ table.”
The joke didn’t end there, though, and what happened next was truly hilarious
The server came back a little bit later and presented her with a plastic-wrapped, Frozen-themed coloring book. Boncella was laughing in disbelief as she held it up, explaining that he told her she needed the book for the kids’ table in case she got bored and wanted to color. I’m not going to lie, ordering ketchup for a steak at a nice spot like Capital Grille is definitely controversial, and you can see why the server reacted the way he did.
Despite the teasing and the coloring book delivery, Boncella took the joke incredibly well. She insisted in the video caption that she’s just “a little kid trapped inside a 31 yr old body.” She also later confirmed that she wasn’t offended at all, calling the whole ordeal the “best dining experience” she’d had “in a long time.” Of course, it is much better than some snooping Michelin-starred restaurants for sure. She loved the entertainment, even if she was “the butt of the joke.”
Viewers were totally divided on whether the server went too far with his playful jabs. Many people defended Boncella’s right to eat her food exactly how she likes it, and I agree with them. It’s your steak, after all. One commenter wrote that people need to mind their own business, adding, “it’s your steak, they’re not eating it haha furthermore who doesn’t use ketchup lol.” Another user championed her preferences, saying, “Stand firm for what you want. You have every right. Nobody should be judging you.”
Other viewers praised the server’s cleverness and Boncella’s good sense of humor. One person loved the commitment to the bit, writing, “I love this!! Color pack brought out to complete the joke. My kind of people.”
Just like how the internet reacted to Joe Jonas’ reaction to his own public grilling, a commenter was glad Boncella wasn’t uptight, saying, “Glad to see you have a sense of humor. Most folks are so uptight these days.” Boncella made it clear that she didn’t mind the joke one bit, and she stressed that if you’re ever in North Raleigh, “Capital Grille is a must.”
