We have several cases where a peaceful game turned into a brawl over a minor disagreement. Similar to a recent MLB brawl between the Angels and the Braves, such fights are rare in professional settings due to strict rules and regulations, but quite common in non-professional settings. Speaking of that, something similar happened in a youth football game in Florida, where children got into an on-field fight, and tensions escalated when a mom stepped in.
By that, you’d be wondering what could go wrong, as an adult in this situation is expected to fix the matter rather than make it worse. But according to the Daily Mail, this mom, Renee Lambert, is accused of kicking a child during the Pop Warner football game. When the brawl started, she ran towards the players and plunged into the already chaotic situation. According to footage from the Gulf Coast News, she kicked one of the players afterward.
The woman justified her actions by saying that she kicked in self-defense, but the authorities found no evidence to back this claim. Speaking of authorities, they reached the scene following alerts about this incident, arrested Renee, and charged her with child abuse without great bodily harm. Additionally, she was also charged with resisting an officer, because her arrest story wasn’t as simple as you’d think.
Lambert tried to stop her arrest with a heated exchange
If you think her arrest took a couple of minutes, you are wrong. Renee made it clear that her extreme side came up because a child hit her with his helmet. But even if he did make her furious with that, kicking still sounds unacceptable; as a result, the authorities wanted to take her in custody. Though the woman resisted and screamed, “Get your hands off me.”
The outlet mentions Renee saying, “So you’re mad at them for hitting me?” To which the officer replied, “I’m mad at an adult for attacking a kid.” The heated exchange continued to the point where the officer said that she was detained and should stop, but Lambert’s response was still explosive, and she said, “No I’m not. Goodbye… get your hands off me.”
Of course, this wasn’t going to prevent her from an arrest. When Renee was sounding convinced, she asked, ‘Where is the number nine?’ which appears to be the kid who hit her with a helmet. The woman was seemingly asking the officer to take away the child as well, to which they responded, “A kid? You’re an adult.”
This Florida mom was then arrested but released in less than a day, per the jail records. However, her court hearing is still due. Per Gulf Coast News, Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno weighed in on this situation, saying, “It’s sad that children playing sports becomes a physical confrontation. We need to have law and order. We need to protect everyone. So as sheriff, I’m not going to tolerate it.”
It was indeed an intolerable act. Similar to a teacher grabbing a student by his neck because he called him ‘bruh,’ this is one of those stories where an adult appears to be harming a child over disrespect.
