After a legal case involving Kroger and a former NFL player, another player’s case has caught attention, but for its closure. The New England Patriots’ defensive tackle, Christian Barmore, came under scrutiny last year over a questionable incident with his girlfriend. When the authorities looked into the matter, they decided to press domestic violence charges.
According to People, the charges were dropped on March 9 due to the lack of evidence. This could be the sole reason for the dismissal, but the Bristol County District Attorney, Thomas M. Quinn III, also stated that Barmore’s ex-girlfriend, who filed the complaint, is no longer a resident of Massachusetts and cannot travel outside the state, per the Associated Press.
These were the reasons that came up in the reports, leaving Barmore with no charges on his name. His attorney, David Meire, also said, “Mr. Barmore is grateful to the District Attorney’s Office for carefully evaluating the facts, reviewing the materials that his attorney shared with them, and acting in the interests of justice.” These comments suggest that the athlete has been quite patient throughout the process.
All of this over a room temperature disagreement with his then-girlfriend?
The charges against the athlete were significant and were put on him because a normal disagreement between him and his ex-girlfriend quickly escalated into something questionable. Last year, the girlfriend, who is also the mother of Barmore’s child, filed a complaint after a heated argument.
It started with them arguing over the temperature of the room’s air conditioner, which then took a different turn as Christian reportedly disconnected her phone, grabbed and threw her to the ground. He did this while she was on the phone with her mother and packing her things to leave the house. Later, she filed a complaint on December 16, 2025. The initial arraignment was set for February 3, but it got delayed to March 9, and is now dismissed by the authorities.
The team also dropped an official statement and was fully aware of the charges involving Barmore. Despite the situation, he wasn’t suspended and continued playing for the Patriots. He played in all 17 regular-season games, including Super Bowl LX, where he recorded 3 total tackles, and later the team lost 29-13 to the Seahawks.
With charges now dismissed and no NFL suspension imposed, he’s under a four-year extension through 2028 and listed as active on team rosters.
