NFL icons and their controversies are well known, but sometimes these stars are framed in the context of events to paint them as offenders, even when they are not. Following the Kroger incident involving Nkemdiche, a Rams wide receiver is now accused of biting a woman and then chanting anti-semitic slurs. Women reported the case to the authorities, accusing the player of abusive conduct.
According to the Daily Mail, the woman claimed that she and her friends got into a sprinter van with Puka Nacua and his friends. She described that that was where Puka got uncomfortably close to the affected woman. She went on to claim that out of nowhere, Puka got close to her friend and, putting his head in her lap, he bit her thumb and then suddenly turned his attention to the alleged victim, biting her neck while they were all in the van.
Both women reported the incident to the police and asked for a restraining order against the wide receiver on Tuesday. But the court has denied the request before any court hearing. Despite the serious accusations, both parties met at a mediation center with their attorneys present to settle the matter out of court. Still, things got heated when the Nacua attorney allegedly threatened to disseminate false information about the accusing party in the media.
Puka’s attorney reveals full details of the incident, clearing up the controversy
Puka’s attorney, Levi McCathern, speaking to the press, revealed that the witnesses have stated that Nacua did not make any comments like those reported by the victims. Levi also revealed that the alleged victim continued to spend time with Nacua even after the alleged abuse incident. He added that they were approached several times by the accusing party, who demanded millions of dollars in compensation for an incident that has not yet been proved in court.
His exact words were, “the whole claim is nothing more than a shakedown attempt,” and that the bite “left nothing more than a temporary mark.” He also added, “the alleged victim continued to spend time with our client [Nacua] after the alleged incident – conduct that directly contradicts the narrative now being advanced. In the months that followed, our office was contacted with demands for millions of dollars in exchange for not publicizing these allegations.”
Even though the details or judgments have not started yet, things look to be in favor of Puka as former players are offering support to him as well. LeSean McCoy, in a program, stated, “I’ve been lied on before, and people do lie on superstar players… And every time you say one thing, it goes a million places.” With support from other athletes and commentators, the case will still be decided in court, and they will have their hearing on the 14th of April. Till then, fingers are crossed about what actually transpired on the scene.
