A California man is now facing murder charges after allegedly telling police that Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents arrested his wife, Jasmine Gill, while she was getting the mail. This claim came days after authorities found burned and buried remains, later identified as hers, about 70 miles away from their Sacramento home.
As reported by Fox News, Gurinder Gill, 28, is accused of murdering his wife. Jasmine Gill was a registered nurse and the mother of their 8-month-old child. The couple was going through a divorce and a child custody dispute when she disappeared, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.
Jasmine was last seen on September 30. Her cousin reported her missing to the authorities on October 4. When Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office detectives began investigating, they found several inconsistencies in Gurinder’s statements about his wife’s disappearance. Sgt. Edward Igoe, a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office, confirmed this in a statement.
She had an 8-month-old son
Detectives then contacted ICE to verify Gurinder’s story. ICE confirmed that no enforcement activity had occurred at the residence, Igoe said. This directly contradicted Gurinder’s initial account to the police.
Investigators had actually found burned and buried remains on October 1, just one day after Jasmine was last seen. These remains were discovered in neighboring El Dorado County, about 70 miles away from where the couple lived in Sacramento. The Sacramento County sheriff later confirmed that these remains belonged to Jasmine Gill.
Jasmine was born in India, where her mother still lives. She became a registered nurse, following in her mother’s footsteps, and had an 8-month-old son. A GoFundMe campaign, set up for Jasmine Gill’s family, has raised over $26,000 to help return her remains to her mother and to support her young son.
The campaign highlights Jasmine’s personal struggles and hopes. “She was fighting for a better future for herself and her baby,” the campaign reads. It also notes that “she was seeking a divorce. She was trying to find the freedom, safety, and fresh start they both deserved.” The campaign then adds, “Tragically, before she could build that future, Jasmine was murdered, leaving behind the very child she was fighting so hard to protect.”
