A body has been found in Bexar County, Texas, during the search for 19-year-old Camila Mendoza Olmos, one of three teenagers who recently disappeared in separate cases across the area. Details emerged on LADbible after investigators began working to confirm whether the remains belong to Camila, following initial reporting on the discovery.
Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar said the body was discovered on Tuesday, December 30, in an area of tall grass located only a few hundred yards from Camila’s home. Authorities emphasized that identification was still pending, but the proximity to her residence made the discovery a critical development in the case.
Camila was reported missing on Christmas Eve, December 24, after leaving her house around 6:58 a.m. Investigators believe she left on foot, taking only her car keys and possibly her driver’s license, while leaving her phone behind on her bed.
The circumstances raised immediate concern
Camila’s mother, Rosario, told reporters she realized something was wrong when she called her daughter’s phone and heard it ringing inside the house. She said she placed the phone on charge and went out searching, believing she would find Camila walking nearby as she had on previous occasions.
During the search, authorities also recovered a firearm near where the body was found. Sheriff Salazar said it was too early to confirm identity or cause of death, noting that early findings pointed to emotional distress, including indicators of suicidal ideation. The discovery comes amid broader public attention on recent Texas cases involving recovered bodies, including reporting on dozens found in Houston-area bayous that officials say are not connected.
Before her disappearance, Camila had recently gone through a breakup, which the sheriff described as mutual and not believed to be directly connected to the case. Her ex-boyfriend and her father both told investigators they had not seen her, leading Rosario to contact authorities when Camila did not return home.
The investigation into Camila’s disappearance unfolded as the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office was simultaneously searching for two other missing teenagers in the same general area. One of them, 14-year-old Sofia Gabriela Peters-Cobos, was last seen leaving her west-side home on December 29 at around 7:00 p.m., and police later confirmed that she was located alive.
The search remains active for 17-year-old Angelique Johnson, who has been missing since Christmas Day, December 25. She was last seen in the 130 block of Exeter Place near Potranco Road on the city’s northwest side. Camila’s case has also appeared in a separate reporting that examined how video evidence captured her final known movements before she disappeared.
