Husband told police he found his wife unresponsive in their hot tub after a night out, and what he didn’t tell them is now coming out in court

The police never bought his story.

Andrew Georgiou, a 44-year-old man from England, admitted on Tuesday that he murdered his wife in a disturbing and calculated attack. He confessed in court to drowning 42-year-old Carol Georgiou in their outdoor hot tub last November, finally revealing the truth during a hearing at Aylesbury Crown Court after months of uncertainty.

According to People, the killing took place at the couple’s home in Milton Keynes, roughly 50 miles northwest of London. The pair had spent the evening out together on 2 November 2024, returning home later that night. At some point after they arrived back, Georgiou forcibly drowned his wife in the hot tub, an act prosecutors described as both deliberate and chilling.

What he did afterward has made the case even more troubling. Instead of calling for help immediately, Georgiou waited around 40 minutes before contacting emergency services. And when he finally dialled 999, he misled the dispatchers, giving a false account of what happened in an apparent attempt to cover up the crime. His confession in court has now laid bare the grim reality of the night and set the stage for a severe sentence.

The husband’s story to police was completely false

Georgiou told police he simply walked outside and found his wife unresponsive and dead in the water. He made it sound like an accident or something he had just discovered. This lie continued until this week when he pleaded guilty in court.

Only when he admitted his guilt did Georgiou confess that he actually drowned Carol himself. Everything he told police at the time was completely made up. This case adds to other troubling incidents where husbands have put their wives in danger. Police arrested him last July, several months after Carol died.

Now that he has pleaded guilty to murder, Georgiou will be sentenced on March 6, 2026. Thames Valley Police Detective Inspector Michael Roddy spoke about the case. He said, “This is a tragic case and my thoughts and the thoughts of Thames Valley Police remain with Carol Georgiou’s loved ones at this difficult time.”

Carol’s family released a statement after Georgiou’s arrest last summer. They described her as a devoted mother to her sons who “brought joy and laughter wherever she went.” Stories of spouses secretly betraying their partners’ trust have shocked many, though this case involves something far more devastating. Her family said her death “left a deep void in our family, and we are struggling to imagine life without her.”

The family remembers Carol for her “warm smile, loving embraces and witty sense of humor.” While the guilty plea may bring some closure, nothing can bring Carol back to those who loved her.
