Florida Woman Says She Shot Boyfriend After He Threw Her To The Ground, But The 911 Call From Five Days Earlier Tells A Different Story

She claimed self-defense. Then they played the 911 call.

Daisy Link, a 32-year-old Florida woman, is on trial for second-degree murder after shooting and killing her boyfriend Pedro Jimenez Sr. on June 25, 2022. Link took the stand to tell the jury that she acted in self-defense when she fired a single shot that hit Jimenez in the foot and thigh, cutting his femoral artery and causing his death. She talked about a nine-year relationship that was full of domestic violence and drug abuse.

As per Court TV, Link told the jury that on the day of the shooting, Jimenez came to her South Florida home high on cocaine and got very angry after she admitted to seeing another man. She said he choked her several times and took her purse and phone before leaving and coming back over and over throughout the afternoon. During the final fight, Link said she went outside to smoke a cigarette and had the gun with her for protection.

Link says she shot her boyfriend after he threw her to the ground, but prosecutors point to a 911 call from five days earlier that shows a different side of the relationship. Link said that Jimenez “grabbed me by my hair, he threw me to the floor” before she fired the gun. But prosecutors showed evidence of a 911 call from five days before the shooting, where Link was accused of attacking Jimenez with a skateboard, which suggests she may have been the one causing problems in the relationship.

There’s Clearly More To This Story Than One Side

Link explained that she pointed the gun at Jimenez and told him to leave. When he turned to walk toward the house, she got worried he would lock her out. “I pointed it at him and told him ‘leave, leave already,'” Link said. “I took a shot. I initially aimed towards the floor as I lifted the gun. I didn’t expect it to hit him. I just thought the sound would scare him off.”

After firing the shot, Link thought she had missed Jimenez at first. She later found him lying on the ground in an alley behind her home and called 911, trying to help him by putting a tourniquet on his leg. In other domestic violence cases that have ended in death, 911 calls have given important clues about what really happened. Medical examiner Dr. Benjamin Mathis said that Jimenez died from losing too much blood after the bullet cut his femoral artery.

Link also talked about something that happened five days before the shooting where Jimenez pistol-whipped her with a gun, leaving her with bad head wounds that needed medical treatment. She explained she didn’t call police right away because she was afraid Jimenez would be sent back to his home country. “It’s not like I didn’t love him, I did,” Link told the jury.

Link’s defense attorney Antonio Tomas said that his client was trying to leave the relationship but Jimenez was “out of control, unhinged and dangerous.” Family members said they had come from Texas to help Link get away from the abuse. Prosecutors say that Link was the one being violent and point to what she first told police, that she shot Jimenez to scare him.
