It appears that we are getting closer and closer to the next generation of consoles from Sony and Microsoft. As the rumor mill has heated up, the sources of these rumors about the “Xbox 720” and PlayStation 4 are starting to come from more reliable sources. The latest comes from Game Informer Magazine, which claims that both Sony and Microsoft could be ready to reveal their new consoles as early as March, during dedicated press conferences that highlight the new hardware.
The March window that Game Informer suggests would likely be tied to the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco between March 25th – 29th.
According to the magazine, “E3 in June may be the industry’s biggest event, but both companies want to give their systems their own limelight… That doesn’t mean E3 won’t be without its surprises. Next-gen games will be announced at the convention in preparation for the systems’ release at the end of the year.”
As has already been speculated upon, Sony is also itching to launch alongside whatever Microsoft brings to the table.
“We hear that Sony in particular is determined not to come out last this time like the PlayStation 3 did,” said GI. “We’ll have to see how soon it can get the PlayStation 4 out the door, and whether Microsoft is motivated to prevent this from happening.”
If true, we could see new consoles revealed by Sony and Microsoft within the next 90 days.
