A man was found dead at Disney Springs on Friday night, marking the sixth death reported at Disney World in just a few months. The Orange County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident, which took place in a parking garage around 9 p.m. While officials believe the death was a suicide, they have not released additional details.
Disney Springs, a bustling entertainment district at the resort, is known for its shops, restaurants, and live attractions. Unlike the theme parks, visitors do not need to buy a ticket or pay for parking to enjoy the area, making it a popular destination not only for resort guests but also for local residents looking for a night out.
This latest death adds to a troubling series of incidents at the 50-year-old resort. According to reports from The Sun, since October, five other deaths have occurred at Disney World properties, with two confirmed suicides among them. The spate of fatalities has raised concerns among visitors and the community, prompting renewed attention to safety measures at the sprawling resort.
A tragic pattern has emerged at the resort
The string of deaths started on October 14 when Summer Equitz, 31, died by suicide after jumping from her hotel balcony. Just a week later, on October 21, a man in his 60s died after having a medical emergency at Disney’s Fort Wilderness. On October 23, Matthew Cohn, 28, took his own life at the Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort.
In November, two more deaths occurred. A woman in her 40s was found dead on resort property on November 2. Guests at the park initially thought they were witnessing a routine medical emergency before authorities confirmed the tragic nature of the incident. Six days later, on November 8, another person was discovered at the Saratoga Springs section and later confirmed to have died.
Disney World also faced another scary incident last week when a prop boulder went off course during the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular show at Disney’s Florida studios. The large prop rolled off its path and headed toward the audience.
A staff member quickly jumped in front of the boulder to stop it from hitting anyone. The runaway prop left the employee injured during the dramatic incident. Walt Disney World has not responded to requests for comment about these incidents. The recent deaths have raised concerns about safety and well-being at one of the world’s most visited tourist destinations.
