Colby Covington was brutally snubbed from the UFC Freedom 250 card, now his bold claim about fighters’ rights is raising bigger questions for the UFC

He has raised a serious concern.

Colby Convington, despite a promising resume in which his pro-Trump views seemed like a cherry on top, was snubbed from the UFC White House event. As a result, he was deeply disappointed and even requested that the officials grant him an invitation. Colby’s White House dreams still remain unfulfilled, but the fighter has now clapped back with sharp reality checks.

Not many have dared to speak like this for the UFC as this disappointed athlete. According to LowKickMMA, Covington has pointed the finger at the UFC’s matchmaking system, where once a fighter is paired with an opponent, that decision is final and cannot be altered. With no room for changes, an athlete who disagrees can face considerable consequences in their career.

The fighter’s exact words while talking to the streamer N3on were, “You don’t get a choice… they will freeze you out if you don’t take their fights.” He further added, “forced to take what they give you, even if it’s not a good move for your career, or they’ll ice you.” These comments highlight a significant issue in the sport that can potentially raise tensions among the audience.

UFC was already under scrutiny for fighters’ pay, and Covington has now fueled it with a new concern

Colby has not specifically said that he has exposed UFC because of the snub, but he has done it after the omission, hinting at it as a real reason. However, he has seemingly fueled the debate around the UFC, which was already under scrutiny for low fighter pay.

Ronda Rousey recently bashed the organization, saying the UFC is not ideal for athletes to make money, and also shed light on bizarre jobs some are doing to earn enough. Covington, on the other hand, has raised a valid concern because it could be odd for fighters to get into the ring with an opponent who could disrupt their smooth careers.

As per Colby’s reality check, it looks like once you reject a fight, the executives like Hunter Campbell hold the right to keep you benched for months, stripping away payday and momentum. This means the athlete is at a loss either way, so it’s better to accept the offer than to remain inactive.

Also known as “Chaos,” Colby is one of the high-profile fighters in the sport. He holds an impressive 17-5 pro record and an interim welterweight title, but despite all of this, he won’t be on the UFC Freedom 250 card. But the point he has exposed about the organization could turn into a significant debate alongside the lower-pay chaos.
