Tiger Woods arrested for DUI in Florida, but the breathalyser told one story and his body told another

Tiger Woods was released on bond in the early hours of March 28 after spending eight hours in jail following his arrest on Jupiter Island, Florida. As detailed by LADbible, the golfing legend was charged with driving under the influence, property damage, and refusal to submit to a lawful test after a car crash. None of the charges are felonies.

According to Sheriff John Budensiek, officers believed Woods was impaired on medication and driving well above the road’s 30 mph limit. The incident occurred around 2:00 PM local time on Friday, with images from the scene showing his car overturned. Woods passed a breathalyzer test at the scene but refused to provide a urine sample, a detail central to the refusal charge against him.

Sheriff Budensiek stated that DUI investigators observed signs of impairment and that Woods discussed his injuries and past surgeries during the stop. After several roadside tests, officers determined he was impaired and placed him under arrest. Budensiek confirmed alcohol was not suspected, with the breathalyzer returning triple zeros, but the refusal to submit to a urine test cemented the additional charge.

The breathalyzer cleared him, but officers still put him in handcuffs

Woods’ mugshot has been released following the arrest. The crash involved his Land Rover rolling over after he allegedly attempted to overtake a pickup truck towing a trailer. Officers described Woods as lethargic at the scene, and the sheriff noted the vehicle slid for a considerable distance on its side before stopping. The driver of the other vehicle was also unhurt.

This is not Woods’ first DUI-related incident. Back in 2017, he was arrested on suspicion of DUI in Jupiter, Florida, after being found asleep at the wheel. He later pleaded guilty to reckless driving, and testing revealed five prescription drugs in his system at the time. Amid the latest arrest, Trump also confirmed Woods would not be competing at the Masters this year.

President Trump, a close friend of Woods, addressed reporters following the news, saying Woods was “a very close friend of mine” and “an amazing person” before adding, “I feel so badly. He’s got some difficulty. There was an accident.”

Woods has faced significant health challenges in recent years, including emergency surgery for multiple leg injuries sustained in a serious car accident in 2021 that sidelined him for 15 months. His appearances on tour have been sporadic since, amid ongoing dating app fraud cases and other stories dominating sports crime coverage this week.

Woods pleaded guilty to reckless driving following the 2017 arrest and entered a diversion program.
