A routine Angels vs Braves game kept building tension inning by inning, then one heated clash turned the diamond into a full-fledged battlefield

Is this MLB or UFC?

Athletes throwing punches mid-game are becoming a headline we often see. Following the chaos that struck between the NYPD and the FDNY during a charity hockey game, another incident involving MLB players is going viral. The incident seemingly became one of the 2026 MLB season’s highlights, as players suddenly went out of control during a routine Los Angeles Angels versus Atlanta Braves game and ended up turning a baseball match into a boxing ring.

Happened in Anaheim, two players sparked a fight that later turned the diamond into a full-fledged battlefield. According to the Daily Mail, the two players were Angels slugger Jorge Soler and Braves pitcher Reynaldo Lopez. Soler charged the mound and then fought Lopez, throwing wild punches, prompting both teams to empty their benches and take part in a full-scale melee.

After a while, the fight between the two teams ended, with both Jorge and Lopez ejected. The footage clearly shows these players staring at each other for a while, and then Soler walking toward the Braves pitcher to throw punches.

The game was resumed, after the chaos, and the Angels faced a shocking loss

The fight was indeed unexpected for the audience, but it didn’t halt the game entirely. As soon as the brawl was over, the game resumed. It looks like the Angels players drained all their energy to back Jorge in the fight because the team faced a disappointing 7-2 loss to the Atlanta Braves. Who started the fight? Well, Jorge can be seen initiating the battle; some of Lopez’s actions seemingly fueled the Angels player’s temper.

If we talk about how the game was going before the fight, Soler opened the game by hitting a two-run homer off Lopez in the first inning, giving his team a solid 2-0 lead. To hit back, the Braves pitcher delivered a 96MPH fastball. But when the game reached the fifth inning, something odd happened. A high, inside pitch narrowly missed Soler’s head, which the athlete clearly viewed as something dangerous.

Moments later, Jorge and Lopez ended up staring at each other for about 10 to 15 seconds, and then their brawl made headlines. While the Braves player was getting punched, he was still holding the ball and even tried to back off to defend himself. Some might think that their fight would have been over sooner if the other players on the teams hadn’t stepped in, but it turned really bad once they joined their teammates.

These two players were also former teammates at Atlanta during the 2024 season. At that time, Jorge had a history of success against the player Lopez, and this rivalry may have further fueled his temper. As of yet, MLB has not announced the consequences these players will face, but they could result in suspensions or fines.
