While not many people know Blizzard for console games, they did get their start as a console developer. The developers recently announced that they are getting back into the console game making business by partnering with Sony to bring Diablo III to the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4. Chris Metzen of Blizzard Entertainment made the announcement at Sony’s PS4 Event.
There had been rumblings for quite some time that Diablo III would be coming to consoles. Out of Blizzard’s lineup, it’s the best fit for a console adaptation, and Metzen relayed that the Diablo III systems have been overhauled for consoles. The dungeon crawler’s inventory system and customization options have been refined for the control scheme on both the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4. The console version of Diablo III will also feature four player couch cooperative mode which was only briefly hinted at.
The developer has more to reveal concerning Diablo III on consoles, and will do so in the coming months. PAX East will be the first showing of Diablo III on consoles with attendees being able to try out a playable version of the game, but no concrete release date was given.
