PlayStation Now Streaming will not allow you to access games you already own

PlayStation Now was announced today at the Consumer Electronics Show.  The Gaikai streaming initiative will arrive in 2014, allowing players to access the massive back catalog of games from the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3.  The program will allow players to either rent games individually or pay a subscription fee to access a selection of titles.

But what about games you already own?  Apparently, you’ll still need to pay for these games through a rental fee or subscription.  A report from Forbes states that “Gamers who own disc or digital-based games will not have access to those games via PS Now free of charge.”

Not quite the backwards compatibility we were hoping for from Gaikai and the PS4, but there’s always room for Sony to change these policies down the line.  PlayStation Now is set to hit a closed beta as early as this month, and the full service is due to arrive this Summer.
