The release of the current generation versions of Minecraft has been whirlwind to say the least, but it is finally over. Minecraft: Xbox One Edition has launched a few hours early and is available for purchase and download now on the Xbox Live Games Store. Developer 4J Studios announced the early launch only moments ago, which confirms that this was not an accidental posting like the PS4 edition experienced. That same tweet contained a new trailer, which can be viewed below.
Minecraft: Xbox One Edition is rolling out now!
You are able to import your previous save to the new version when going from PS3 to PS4 or Xbox 360 to Xbox One. On top of that all of your previously purchased DLC will carry over and be available today.
Minecraft: Xbox One Edition can be purchased for $19.99, but there is a special deal if you owned the Xbox 360 version either digitally or as a physical disc. If you bought and played the game on your current Xbox Live account then it should be available to you for $4.99. This is similar to the deal offered to gamers moving from PS3 to PS4, but you cannot take advantage if you are crossing from Playstation to Xbox or vice versa.
After all of the worry and debate over which console would get it first the difference ended up only being a few hours as Minecraft: Playstation 4 Edition was released earlier today. Both versions featured unusual trouble on their way to release, with the PS4 version having to go through at least two final verifications and a last second delay from yesterday to today.
Both new versions of the mega-popular game feature a lot of enhancements over their last-gen counterparts. Larger worlds, enhanced draw distance, and improved visual fidelity are just the beginning. Both games run at 1080p and 60 FPS, so it will be tough to spot any differences between PS4 and Xbox One this time.
