PS4 Leads Hardware Sales In August Making It An 8 Month Winning Streak

For 8 months in a row, the PS4 console is the best selling console in North America as it was above the rest of the competition in the month of August.

Sony told IGN that the PS4 is the best selling console for August and that has remained that way for 8 long months. Microsoft told the site that Xbox One sales have doubled thanks to the release of Madden NFL 15.

It was not just a good month for hardware sales for the PS4 and Xbox One, the entire industry had a good boost in North America in August 2014. NPD Group’s Liam Callahan said hardware sales for the month increased by “200 percent” compared to the same month last year. This is all thanks to the strong sales of “eighth generation hardware”. This group includes the PS4, Xbox One as well as the Wii U. The release of Mario Kart 8 has attributed to the healthy sales of the Wii U hardware as of late.

As strong as August 2014 has been, it will be interesting to see what the sales of September 2014 will be like. The release of Destiny is sure to boost a lot of PS4 sales thanks to the bundle. Xbox One sales shouldn’t be too bad either. Hyrule Warriors is sure to increase Wii U sales too.
