‘Do NOT go home’: Woman asked her mom for an aesthetic walking video. Then her distorted shadow stole the entire shot

It even caught attention of a prominent Hollywood studio

Kalina, whose TikTok profile appears as @kyosseva, posted a video that has received 9.6 million views, 1.9 million likes, and more than 8,700 comments. In the clip, she described asking her mom for an aesthetic walking video. The on-screen text states: “The time I asked my mom for an aesthetic walking video of me walking but my shadow looks like it crawled out of the depths of hell to fetch my soul.”

The TikTok video shows Kalina walking from left to right along a path next to a low white concrete wall and rocky terrain. She wears a dark top and a short dark skirt. The setting appears to be a coastal area with a clear blue sky and the warm golden light of sunrise or sunset. A large white curved pipe structure sits in the foreground on the left.

Her shadow appears cast on the white wall by the low sun. It looks elongated and distorted by the uneven surface of the wall and the pipe.

The original clip showed the shadow stretching and shrinking across the wall as Kalina walked

The shadow stretches and shrinks with her movement and takes on a somewhat monstrous and eerie appearance. Universal Pictures commented on the video: “Do NOT go home.” One user replied: “They’re gonna use this as next years HHN” HHN refers to Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights, which features haunted houses and attractions inspired by major horror films including Evil Dead Burn, Sinners and Killer Klowns from Outer Space.

Kalina later posted a follow-up video on TikTok with the caption “Replying to @shy we took a few more videos today to explain.” The clip begins with her responding to a comment that reads, “lol the shadow is fake. It’s glitching not following like a shadow. But yeah the wall would make it looks something like this.”

She appears covering her face with her hand. On-screen text states “you guys are killing me.” The comment highlights a common online reaction to creators, such as when a stranger confronted a New York creator filming an outfit video.

The scene then shifts to a sunny beach with a clear blue sky. Several people appear visible on the sand and near a low white concrete wall. The sun casts long shadows on the sand and the wall. On-screen text states, “It’s just a very weird illusion on the wall.” As people walk past the wall, their shadows appear distorted and elongated on its surface.

Another woman, wearing a black swimsuit, then appears walking barefoot along a dirt path next to the concrete wall. Her shadow is cast onto the wall and looks elongated and somewhat inverted. On-screen text explains, “due to the angle, the shadow looks inverted so the right arm on the person looks like the left arm on the shadow.” As she moves her right arm, the shadow’s left arm appears to move.

She continues to walk and then poses, raising her arms and adjusting her hair. The shadow’s movements appear to mirror hers with the left-right inversion. Finally, she walks up a set of concrete stairs next to the wall. Her shadow stretches and distorts further as she ascends. On-screen text concludes, “that’s why the shadow looks delayed on the original video, you’re looking at the wrong arm.”

Viewers left comments on the original video. Gordon Ramsay Restaurants wrote: “Are we sure that’s your shadow?” One comment said: “girl why is haaland following you.” Another stated: “You should be scared, it doesn’t even have a ponytail, it’s bald.” A third read: “its also looking like your stalker recording you.”

One more said: “GIRL RUN!!! YOUR SHADOW IS AFTER YOU!!” A final comment noted: “The shadow of my grandmother reading and she just looks like a weird punk cartoon.” Such unexpected online reactions are common, like when a woman shared a video of her dog on an airplane tray table but her joking caption did not land the way she hoped.
