Super Smash Bros. 3DS Makes Smashing Sales Debut In Japan

After years of waiting, Super Smash Bros. for 3DS finally arrived this past Saturday in Japan. Now, the first sales numbers are in and they are quite exceptional, which is great news for Nintendo.

In only two days, Super Smash Bros. 3DS has sold more than 1 million copies across Japan. This total includes both the retail and digital versions, showing how important the latter is to Nintendo now.

Super Smash Bros. joins the prestigious club of three, technically four, other Nintendo 3DS games to reach this milestone. Those games are Monster Hunter 4, Yokai Watch 2, and Pokemon X and Y.

There was little doubt that Super Smash Bros. would sell well, but this is a great sign regardless for the company that has struggled mightily over the last few years. The 3DS has been selling quite well, but with a game drought this year, the sales have tapered off a bit. Hopefully this is a sign that will propel the system once again, along with the release of the New Nintendo 3DS coming up soon.

With this level of early success on the handheld version of the game, Super Smash Bros. Wii U should help to sell systems about as well as any game not named Mario Kart 8.
