Ever since the announcement of the new limited edition Majora’s Mask New 3DS XL during the latest Nintendo Direct last week, Zelda fans have been scurrying to try and procure a copy of the special handheld for themselves. However, a very limited supply and the presence of scalpers has made this a new impossible task for many, with GameStop, Best Buy, and most recently Target selling out very quickly. Following up on the latter’s sell out in the middle of the night, another retailer put them on sale in the middle of the day, almost 12 hours later in fact. The sellout isn’t at all surprising, but what is was their comments on Twitter after the fact.
According to Destructoid, that retailer happened to be electronics chain Fry’s Electronics, which is nowhere near as prominent a store as the previous three from a national standpoint. During this short period around 2:30 pm EST yesterday afternoon the Majora’s Mask New 3DS XL handheld was on sale, though some are reporting their status is listed as “partial backorder.” The interesting part comes from their Twitter, where they stated that they will have more of them available in stores on February 13.
- we’ll still have them available in stores on launch day! No pre-orders available. -B
With the lack of any regular pre-orders in store that weren’t Web In Store at GameStop or Best Buy, it has been expected by many that no retailers would have any units for people that didn’t pre-order. However, this is one option for those that have a Fry’s in the area, though a pre-order would still be the safer bet if you could find one somewhere. In addition, they also revealed that they would have some of the Majora’s Mask 3D Limited Edition games with the Skull Kid figure as well on launch day. Hopefully news will come that this will be the case at other retailers as well, but for now Fry’s is the only one.
