A big announcement for Dragon Quest fans is that Square Enix is re-releasing Dragon Quest VIII for the Nintendo 3DS. It’s not a straight port either, it can be considered a ‘definitive edition’ of the game after all these years.
The announcement was made via a teaser site and will not only include the original Dragon Quest VIII, but also brand new scenarios that didn’t make it into the original release. Players will also have two new party members, a female thief named Gerda and Morrie, the owner of the Monster Arena. Events will be fully voiced and come with StreetPass features. The soundtrack is also being worked on by the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra.
Silliconera also had a list of pre-orders already available in Japan for anyone who was interested in importing.
Square Enix e-Store: A “Candy Cane” weapon for Yangus that always hits.
Amazon Japan: A “Healie T-shirt” armor that can be equipped by any party member.
Aeon: A “Healie Cap” headgear that can be equipped by any party member.
Game Tsutaya: “Gold Bamboo Spear” that can be equipped by the protagonist.
7-Eleven: A “Lucky Pendant,” an accessory that can be equipped by any party member.
Yodobashi Camera: A “Metal Slime Tray” shield that can be equipped by all party members.
No word on if it will make its way to the west. For now Dragon Quest VIII is set to release in Japan for Nintendo 3DS on August 27th.
