Smite is now in open beta on Xbox One. Everyone with an Xbox Live Gold account can now play the free-to-play third-person MOBA, without the need to incessantly beg your friends or online associates for a key. Just hop on the Xbox Store and download the svelte 5GB file and you should be off and running.

By most accounts of those who’ve had a chance to play the MOBA on Xbox One, it’s pretty good. You can check out our initial hands-on impressions of the game from someone who admittedly doesn’t play a lot of MOBAs, and then stick around for an interview with Stew Chisam of Hi-Rez Studios.

There have been a few attempts at bringing the MOBA genre to console, but SMITE appears to be handling it best. A console specific control scheme and a third person behind the player camera, have helped the PC title in transitioning from its native platform to Xbox One.

While DOTA 2 and League of Legends rule the roost on PC, neither has hinted at making an attempt at either the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One.
