Blizzard is apparently going to be continuing forward with the Diablo series. And why not? It was just recently revealed that the company has sold over 30 million copies of Diablo III in one form or another. A new job listing on Blizzard’s website reveals that the studio is looking for an Art Director for an unannounced project that is related to “Diablo.”
The project is seeking to fill this position for what is described as “Blizzard’s next hit game.” While it’s somewhat hard to tell what this means, Blizzard is either actively working on or getting ready to start working on Diablo IV or another expansion for Diablo III.
Diablo III: Reaper of Souls hasn’t been out all that long. The game launched a little over a year ago on PC, and then hit consoles shortly thereafter. At one time, Blizzard did have another expansion on the books for Diablo III. Back in 2010, a document which alleged to detail the the Blizzard product slate as far out as 2015 had a second bout of expansion content listed for release in 2015. That’s almost certainly not going to happen.
At that point, Blizzard likely didn’t forsee the problems they’d run into with Diablo III, the community backlash, as well as launch issues. With BlizzCon just around the corner, a WoW expansion already announced, and Legacy of the Void confirmed for this year, perhaps the convention for all things Blizzard will hold some answers as to what this Diablo project they are currently hiring for is.
